Freshwater Fish Extinct

Freshwater fish becoming completely extinct soon is completely hypothetical, but it would destroy communities and people's livelihood. Even though they are not in danger of completely disappearing in the near future , species numbers are declining at a sig nificant rate in recent years. This has caused bigger species to be cut in half. By these bigger fishing declining at such a rapid rate, there will only be smaller fish growing in species population size.        Freshwater fish is vital to ecosystems, economies, and the way people live their lives. People would no longer have a valid food source from freshwater with species dying out and fungi overtaking ecosystems. Communities would not survive without certain exports of freshwater fish for not only food, but for business as well. Some areas depend on freshwater fish for commercialization for tourism. Losing this tourism would destroy small towns and their communities forever.     ...

Forever Chemicals

Fish in the United States are having a bigger dose of these chemicals compare to other places. These chemicals are spreading all over the United States, and even to small bodies of water in rural environments. This is becoming detrimental to fish population health, as well as human health. So much so that according to healthline , “A study   published today by the Environmental Working Group (EWG) reports that eating just a single serving of freshwater fish caught in the United States could be the equivalent of drinking water contaminated with PFOS for a month. ” PFOS is a potentially harmful chemical, known as perfluoro octane sulfonic. This is extremely alarming because fish is an important part in people’s diets. It is also very important for restaurants because many rural restaurants serve freshwater fish to their customers. These numbers are not going down either and there are no signs of it slowing down. A bad source of this is runoff pollution from sewage and on plants. He...

Catfish Fishing VS Bass Fishing

There are major differences when trying to catch catfish or bass. Everything changes, from your fishing pole, line, bait, and techniques that are used. Catfish To catch catfish, first you will start with your rod and reel. You will want a thick and strong pole that can with stand some weight on it. You will also want to get durable line. There are different weights that lines can hold and it is important to get the line that will be strong enough to not break when the fish pulls on it. I prefer using a treble hook, but you can use a traditional hook as well. For bait, liver or another kind of stink bait is the best thing to use when luring catfish in. Next, you will want to throw you hook out with weights so it will sink towards the bottom. Most catfish swim along the bottom of ponds or lakes. This is why you will need a bobber to hang your line down and wait on the fish to bite. Bass To catch bass, you will first want a lighter pole and reel. Most bass are not huge in weight...

Fishing Is More Than Catching Fish

Fishing has become more than just catching fish for me. It can be a relaxing thing to do with friends, family, or just by yourself. Our world today is very stressful and can become too much. By fishing, you can reflect on yourself and do something in nature that is very relaxing. For me, fishing has helped me through many times in my life and has become more than a fun activity. I have been through hard times throughout high school and college, and this is something I can do where I can just be with myself. This gives me a chance to reflect on what I have done in my life and what I can do with the problems in my life. Fishing has also inspired me to create my own business and clothing line. I decided to do this while fishing one day because I was tired of working a part time job I did not like. It gave me the clarity to realize I wanted to start and be a part of something I am very passionate about. This has now opened more opportunities for personally and professionally. It opened the ...

Profile

I will be covering everything there is about fish, but mostly about Midwest United States fishing. I will focus mainly on bass for posts about setting up your equipment but will also cover other fish species in the Midwest. The information I will provide can also be used for other species of fish. For example, on bigger fish just amp up the adjustments for what I am doing on bass and vice versa for smaller fish. I fish any chance I get. Whether I am at home or in school, I fish whenever I get an opportunity. I am very experienced because I have been fishing most of my life. I generally fish in ponds and in Lake Shelbyville. It has taught me a lot of lesson about patience but is also very fun to me.  I also am doing this to spread information to people who are looking to learn. Not everyone has someone to teach them to fish and this could help someone to prevent mistakes I made. Simple things like identifying what rod and reel to use, what bait to purchase and when to use it, ...

Raising Awareness

There is a big problem in preserving freshwater fish populations. I think a problem with preserving natural freshwater fish populations is the lack of awareness. I do not see a lot of marketing for programs that help with freshwater fishing. I have to go out on my own to see anything about this problem. Most people will not do this unless it is put in their face.      Saltwater fishing has made a huge awareness for population and promoting the growth of fish populations. There is even a documentary on Netflix called Seaspiracy. This is great for highlight problems in our oceans. However, there are more freshwater fish then saltwater fish. Even though there may be more freshwater fish, these species are dying out at an alarming rate. The bigger species, like catfish and others, are experiencing declining rates very rapidly. There needs to be more money going into these freshwater programs.      These freshwater fish are a source of food f...
